  • Troubleshooting View
    • Can't connect to the internet
    • Please try the troubleshooting guide below step by step, If it does not resolve your problem, please contact megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200.

      1. Check the router to see if ADSL sync is on.

      • 1-1. If no ADSL sync
      • Make sure telephone is working properly and the telephone line is properly connected between ADSL router and jack point/ADSL filter without using telephone extension line. Make sure all jack points have ADSL filters in place (incl. telephone, fax machine, alarm system, Sky TV, etc).

        Have you experienced any phone line disconnection recently?
        * Phone line issues, contact line provider first
        If disconnected previously, you have to contact megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200 to ask for the internet to be reconnected (installation fee applies)

      • Reboot router (power off and wait at least 5 minutes)
      • Connect PC to ADSL router directly and perform isolation test on each jack point (note: isolation test means unplug all the telephones, fax machine, ADSL filter, alarm system or other equipment from the jack points, and plug the ADSL router directly into the jack point)
      • Reset the router and re-config.
      • Try different router if possible.
      • Call megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200 for further assistance.

      2. If ADSL sync is on

      • Make sure telephone line is properly connected between ADSL router and jack point/ADSL filter without using telephone extension line. Make sure all jack points have ADSL filters in place (incl. telephone, fax machine, alarm system, Sky TV, etc).
      • Reboot router (power off and wait at least 5 minutes)
      • Check router setting

        * Check configuration setting (vpi=0, vci=100, connection type=PPPoA VC-MUX)
        * Ensure the username and password are entered correctly.
        * If possible, check the system log and look up keywords.
        * If keywords are "Authentication failed" : Check the username and password and make sure they are not capitalized and there are no spelling mistakes.
        * If keywords are "Session/PPP is down" : Call megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200 for further assistance.

      • Connect PC to ADSL router directly and perform isolation test on each jack point (note: isolation test means unplug all the telephones, fax machine, ADSL filter, alarm system or other equipment from the jack points, and plug the ADSL router directly into the jack point)
      • Reset the router and re-config.
      • Try different PC or router if possible; otherwise call megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200 for further assistance.
    • Slow speed issue
    • 1. Reboot router (power off and wait at least 5 minutes)

      2. Check the following

      • If using wireless network, is the signal strong? (i.e There may be interference with other networks; try changing channels)
      • Number of internet users (i.e Multiple users using downloading software (e.g. BT, Thunder etc))
      • Make sure all jack points have ADSL filters in place (incl. telephone, fax machine, alarm system, Sky TV, etc)
      • Make sure the length of the telephone line connected to the router is less than two meters.
      • Make sure the LAN cable is not excessively long
      • Any damage to the LAN cable? For example, is it pressed, jammed or twisted?

      3. Connect PC to ADSL router directly and perform isolation test on each jack point (note: isolation test means unplug all the telephones, fax machine, ADSL filter, alarm system or other equipment from the jack points, and plug the ADSL router directly into the jack point)

      4. Reset the router and re-config.

      5. Try different PC or router if possible; otherwise call megaTEL customer support 09 912 1200 for further assistance.

    • ADSL stability issue
    • Check the following

      • If using wireless network, is the signal strong? (i.e There may be interference with other networks; try changing channels)

  • Internet Usage View
    • How can I check my Broadband usage?
    • Please visit megaTEL website www.megaTEL.co.nz, log in to MymegaTEL and select "My usage" to check your usage each month. If you have just connected to the megaTEL ADSL service, you can check your usage after one to two weeks.
    • What is over usage?
    • Over usage means that if you are on one of megaTEL's broadband plans, you will have a monthly usage allowance. If you exceed this allowance, you will be charged a $5/2GB over-usage fee.

    • Normally mp3 files are approximately 5MB, video files around 35MB and movie files about 800MB. 1GB is 1000MB.

    • Preparing factory-reset the router prior to settings for each service (ADSL, VDSL or UFB)

      1. Before start, please perform ‘factory reset’.

      1. Switch on your router
      2. Make sure ‘green light’ is on ‘power lamp’
      3. Press and hold ”reset” button for about 5 seconds (you may need a small object to press the button)

      2. Connecting your computer to the router

      • Connect your PC to router with a LAN cable (either Cat5 or Cat5e). You can plug the LAN cable to any LAN port (yellow ports at the back of the router). Please do not use WAN port when you connect your computer to the router.

      VoIP configuration

    • Wireless configuration
    • You can use default WiFi name and password which can be found at the bottom of the router.
      If you want to change your own WiFi name and password, please use the following guides.

      Change WiFi name

      1. Click on “Wireless” on the menu
      2. Click on “Basic” on the menu
      3. “SSID” is where you put your own WiFi name
        ex) you can change it to any name you want; Fastest-WiFi, for example.
      4. Click on “Apply/Save” button

      Change WiFi password

      1. Click on “Wireless” on the menu
      2. Click on “Security” on the menu
      3. “WPA/WAPI Passphrase” is where you put your own WiFi password
        ex) you can change it to any name you want; superfastwifi123, for example.
      4. Click on “Apply/Save” button

    • UFB Setting
    • Step 1: Accessing Router configuration page

      1. Open a web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc)
      2. Type “192.168.20.1” in address field and enter.
      3. Authentication window pops up then type the followings:
          • Username: admin
          • Password: admin

      * If you cannot use above username/password, you may have to reset the router again to ensure that the router has been factory-reset properly.

      Change WiFi password

      1. Click on “Wireless” on the menu
      2. Click on “Security” on the menu
      3. “WPA/WAPI Passphrase” is where you put your own WiFi password
        ex) you can change it to any name you want; superfastwifi123, for example.
      4. Click on “Apply/Save” button

      Step 2: Setting up ETH Interface configuration

      1. Click on “Advanced Setup”
      2. Select “Layer2 Interface” from the list
      3. Click on “Add” button
      4. Select “eth4/eth4” from drop-down list and click “Save” button

      * If you already have eth4/eth4 under ETH Interface option, you may skip this step.

      Step 3: Setting up WAN configuration

      1. Click on “WAN Service” under Advanced Setup
      2. Click “Add” button
      3. Select “eth4/eth4” from the drop-down list and click “Next” button
      4. When you reach “WAN Service Configuration” page, select “PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) and click “Next” button
      5. Fill-out blank space using the following details when you reach “PPP Username and Password” page
         • PPP Username: user_nga@megatel.co.nz
         • PPP Password: megatel1234
         • PPPoE Service Name: Megatel
         • Authentication Method: AUTO
         • MTU[576-1492]: 1492
         • Remove all ticks but leave ‘Enable IPv4 for this service’ ticked
      6. Click “Next” button.
      7. Click “Next” button on Routing Defualt Gateway page
      8. Click “Next” button on DNS Server Configuration page
      9. Click “Apply/Save” button on WAN Setup – Summary page

    • VDSL Setting
    • Step 1: Accessing Router configuration page

      1. Open a web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc)
      2. Type “192.168.20.1” in address field and enter.
      3. Authentication window pops up then type the followings:
          • Username: admin
          • Password: admin

      Step 2: Setting up PTM Interface setup

      1. Go to “Advanced Setup” -> “Layer2 Interface” -> “PTM Interface”
      2. Click on “Add” button on DSL PTM Interface Configuration page
      3. Do not change anything and click “Apply/Save” on PTM Configuration page
         Ensure that following settings are selected:
            • Select DSL Latency
            • Path0 (Fast) is ticked
            • Path 1(Interleaved) is NOT ticked
         Select Scheduler For Queues of Equal Precedence as the Default Queue “Weighted Round Robin” is selected
            • Default Que Weight: 1
            • Default Queue Precedence: 8
            • Default Queue Shaping Rate: N/A (no number)
            • Default Queue Shaping Burst Size: 3000

      Step 3: WAN Service setup

      1. Go to “Advanced Setup” -> “WAN Service” page
      2. Click on “Add” button when you are on “Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup page
      3. Select correct settings as below on WAN Service Configuration page
         • WAN service type: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
         • Enter the number “0” for 802.1P Priority [0-7]
         • Enter the number “10” for 802.1Q VLAN ID [0-4094]
      And, click on “Next” button when you complete above options.
      4. Fill-out the blank space using the following details on PPP Username and Password page
         • PPP Username: user_vdsl@megatel.co.nz
         • PPP Password: megatel1234
         • PPPoE Service Name: Megatel
         • Authentication Method: AUTO
         • MTU[576-1492]: 1492
         • Remove all ticks but leave ‘Enable IPv4 for this service’ ticked
      And, click on “Next” button when you complete above options.
      5. Click “Next” button on Default Gateway page
      6. Click “Next” button on DNS Server Configuration page
      7. Click “Apply/Save” button on WAN Setup - Summary page

    • ADSL Setting
    • Step 1: Accessing Router configuration page

      1. Open a web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc)
      2. Type “192.168.20.1” in address field and enter.
      3. Authentication window pops up then type the followings:
          • Username: admin
          • Password: admin

      * If you cannot use above username/password, you may have to reset the router again to ensure that the router has been factory-reset properly.

      Step 2: Using Quick Setup function

      1. Click on “Basic Setup” on the menu
      2. Click on “Quick Setup”
      3. Choose “ADSL” on “Basic > Quick Setup > Internet Setup (Select one DSL mode)” page
      4. Choose “PPP Over ATM (PPPoA)” on “Basic > Quick Setup > Wan Setup (Select one WAN mode)” page
      5. Enter the following details on “Basic > Quick Setup > ADSL only > PPPoA Information” page
          • User ID: user_adsl@megatel.co.nz
          • Password: megatel1234
          • VPI: 0
          • VCI: 100
      And, click on “Finish” button after completing the above settings
